HighTail

Hightail Review

Located in the Bay Area of California, Hightail, a cloud service hosted and developed by Hightail Inc., lets users digitally sign, send, synchronize, and receive files. Originally, when they first opened their doors as YouSendIt in 2004, they focused on helping clients send large files that most email carriers could not handle. In July of 2013, YouSendIt changed its name to Hightail to represent its broadening of services beyond just file sharing and including more file collaboration.

Features of Hightail Online Storage

Hightail focuses on three main features: collaboration, accessibility, and file sharing. You can decide who on your team can instantly update or edit your files and share project folders with secure file sharing. Partners and clients can send files up to 2 GB in size straight to your Hightail folders. The Hightail Desktop app also allows for drag and drop functionality. You can access all types of files no matter where you are using a tablet, desktop, Outlook, and your smartphone using Hightail’s unlimited online file storage.

Security Features of Hightail

The security measures taken by Hightail are state of the art and keep your data protected. When files are in transit, Hightail offers 128-bit SSL encryption. When the files are in rest, they are protected with 256-bit AES encryption. This is the level of security that most businesses and the US Government use. If your files are intercepted somehow, they will be undecipherable by anyone. Also, Data is kept in data centers in undisclosed locations. The data centers have some of the most state of the art security available. Each center has multiple forms of security monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year. Plus, redundant backups of files ensure you will not lose any data.

  1. After my laptop crashed last year and I lost a ton of irreplaceable files, I vowed that I would never be unprepared again. Backing up files was always something I tabled into the “I’ll do that later” column. Well, no more. When I got my new laptop I looked into purchasing an external hard drive to back everything up on, but it was very expensive. I don’t have a extra few hundred dollars to spare. Online cloud storage is an affordable and reliable option for me. I chose Hightail because of the straightforward interface that I can navigate with ease. I can arrange my audio and video files, my spreadsheets and excel documents, pictures, word processing docs, and everything else that I have on my hard drive conveniently into my cloud storage for dependable backup. The drag and drop upload feature is easy enough for my toddler to use. I don’t need redundancy because I am not calling up my files unless I need them most, so not paying for that was a plus for me. The price is more than affordable, especially considering that I know how valuable lost files and data can be. I am confident that if anything should happen to my hard drive in the future, that there is a backup waiting for me in the cloud. I wish that I had known about this before my last hard drive crashed. Live and learn I guess.

  2. At work we recently moved over to cloud storage for backup and everything is working just fine. I had to pull up financial records from last year the other day and it was smooth sailing. I’m not sure how much this costs my company but it sure seems worth it to me.

  3. After a virus wreaked havoc on my last pc hard drive I knew I had to back up my files on this new one. Instead of buying an external hard drive I opted for the cloud. I only pay for what I use and can increase my GB as I need. This is a great service.
